Although not mandatory, the Department encourages each worksite to have an elected safety representative.

Safety representatives are required to participate in a five day training course that has been accredited by the WorkSafe Western Australia Commission. The Employee Support Bureau coordinates training in each of the country districts. If you would like to register for training, please contact your District Office Support Officer. Metropolitan courses are held by several training providers. For a list of accredited providers, please contact the Department Safety Officers.

Election of a safety representative is in accordance with Part IV of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 Exit.
