The Department's Occupational Safety and Health Policy is based on the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984. Exit The policy assists schools in developing a process for managing hazards and in turn preventing injuries to staff, students and visitors.

The Department is committed to providing and promoting a workplace that is safe and healthy, and in which hazards are minimised and controlled.

All employees of the Department must take reasonable care at work. Principals and line managers must familiarise themselves and employees under their control, with relevant information about occupational safety and health. They must induct new employees in accordance with the Department's policy and procedures.

Whenever practicable, the resolution of safety and health issues will occur at the work site.

The policy covers:

  • Relevant legislation.
  • Prevention of incidents procedures.
  • Resolution of health and safety issues procedures.
  • Importance of the induction of new staff.
  • Occupational Safety and Health checklist.
  • Accident/Incident investigation forms.
  • Related policies and procedures.
PDF Document The Occupational Safety and Health Policy, Procedures and Guidelines is available in full from the Department's Our Policies webpage.
