The Department together with the Master Cleaners Guild, the Australian Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union and the National Chemical Suppliers Association has developed a Chemical Information Guide and a set of guidelines for all contract and Department cleaners regarding safe use of cleaning chemicals used on a daily basis.

All "daily used" cleaning chemicals relevant to school sites should be coded with numbers one through to six. Set out below is the numbering system and which chemicals relate to the numbers.

1. Spray and Wipe Cleaner.

2. Glass Cleaner.

3. General Floor Cleaner.

4. Carpet Spotter.

5. Toilet Bowl and Urinal Cleaner.

6. Toilet Floor and Wall Cleaner.

The chemical information wall chart comes in A3 and A4, and goes into further detail on each chemical and its application, personal protective equipment and first aid procedures.

If you haven't received a copy of the chemical information wall charts, associated stickers and training guides that outline the new numbering system, please contact the Facilities and Services Improvement Program on 9264 5388. Copies are also available, for a fee, from the Master Cleaners Guild on 9310 5618.
