If you use or quote from the following program, please acknowledge the author above.

  1. This program will be used to illustrate the use of IF THEN statements.

Enter the programming mode via the menu and enter a program name (in this case "INTEREST") and enter the following screen of information.

I used the "SPACE" (ALPHA , decimal point key) to create the layout on line 2. The colon will display the question mark on the following line when you run the program. It is found with the following key sequence: SHIFT, VARS (PRGM), F6, F5.

  2. To direct the calculator to run either the Simple Interest or the Compound Interest calculation, a value for D must be given. If D = 1 then Simple Interest will be calculated and if D = 2 then Compound Interest will be calculated.

Find and use the "If" with the following sequence: SHIFT, VARS (PRGM ), F1, F1.

"Then" is next to "If". Press: SHIFT, VARS (PRGM ), F1, F2.

  3. Find and use the = , in the statement D = 1, with the following sequence: SHIFT, VARS (PRGM ), F6, F3, F1.

  4. Complete the following screen.

  5. The next screen shows the final lines of the Simple Interest part of the program. To enter the "If End" press: SHIFT, VARS (PRGM), F1, F4.

  6. Now type in the instructions for the Compound Interest calculation.

  7. If you wish to calculate the interest from the above screen use the insert command to change the final lines to the following.

  8. Now try the program out and use the correction methods outlined in the previous example.
