If you use or quote from the following program, please acknowledge the author above.

  1. Turn the calculator ON/AC and move the cursor to the PRGM icon by using the keys. If calculator is on already, press the MENU key.

  2. Press EXE to obtain the next screen. If there are already programs on your calculator it may appear different. The most important word on the screen is NEW.

  3. Press F3 (corresponding to NEW) to obtain the following screen.

  4. Type in the name of the program. Note that the insert icon is a flashing "", indicating that the calculator is in Alphabetical mode at present and the ALPHA values above the keys are now active.

  5. Press EXE when you have typed the last letter of the name of your program. (You can always change this name later). The following screen will appear.

  6. Press the Red "ALPHA" key, notice the quotation marks which appear above F2.
Press F2. (You will need these quotation marks to input any text which you want to appear on the screen.) Now using "ALPHA" before each letter type in "LENGTH". This is just a word and will not do any more than tell you what information you are seeking when the program runs. Now for the first real bit of programming. To obtain the question mark press the yellow SHIFT key then the VARS key (this will access the yellow PRGM written above the key) then press F4.

  7. This question mark will ask for information when the program runs. Now to put the information somewhere. Use the arrow key (immediately above the AC/ON key to obtain the arrow and then type in a letter to indicate which memory is to be used to store your input data. EXE produces the return symbol. Repeat this procedure for the second line.

  8. Type in "AREA =" (so you will know what your answer means.) (The = is optional and is found above the decimal point. Press SHIFT then the decimal point.) Press EXE to complete the line. Now type in the required algebraic rule connecting your variables. The little triangle after the formula is very important if you want the area result to print out on the screen. Omit it and you will only see the PERIMETER result. You can find the triangle with the following key sequence: SHIFT VARS F5. (Check the screen the small triangle may already be above F5.) Complete the next line.

  9. To obtain this next screen, press EXIT (twice) after the last bracket.

  10. Press EXE or F1 to run your program. At the question mark prompt type in a number. Press EXE. Type in the second dimension of the rectangle. Press EXE. The -- Disp -- is because of the little triangle. Press EXE again to get the Perimeter result. Press EXE again to rerun the program.
