Pathways to the Future: A Report of the Review of Educational Services for Students with Disabilities in Government Schools received strong acknowledgement from the Minister for Education and Training for the comprehensive nature of the consultation undertaken and the forward-thinking identified within the recommendations. Importantly, the report is responsive to current legislation and changing community expectations, particularly the potential impacts of the Disability Standards for Education (see Explanatory statement & Guidance notes) developed under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 The Department has continued to develop the operational processes for the implementation of the recommendations developed during the Review. Focusing on enhancing the educational choices, quality of service and support for students with disabilities and learning difficulties, these recommendations supported the key objectives of the Plan for Government Schools 2004-2007. Several major themes emerged that offer a basis for supporting our education system in providing quality learning environments for all of our students, in particular, those with disabilities and those with a range of difficulties with learning. The strategies to address the recommendations are outlined in the Ten Point Action Plan endorsed by the Minister. The Department's implementation of the strategies outlined in the 10 Point Action Plan is ongoing and information will be regularly updated on this page.
