The office is situated in the town of Narrogin and its personnel provide support for the Narrogin District's twenty nine schools. This support includes Curriculum, Student Services and Operational support. The Director, Schools supports schools, promotes their work, assists them to implement systemic initiatives and oversees school improvement and school accountability. Office staff who work in the District Office support and provide a service for both their colleagues within the office and also to the District's administrators, teachers and ancillary staff.
The Narrogin District has 29 schools ranging from small schools with twenty or less students through to two large senior high schools. Also included in the District is a residential Agricultural College and two residential campuses for secondary students who attend Narrogin Senior High School and Katanning Senior High School.
The Senior High Schools enrol students from year 8 to year 12. The District also has eight District High Schools that cater for students from Kindergarten through to Year 10 and some of these schools also cater for some students during their post compulsory years. These students are greatly assisted by the Perth based School of Isolated and Distance Education. There are eighteen primary schools. Sixteen of these schools cater for students from Kindergarten through to Year seven. Woodanilling Primary School and Tincurrin Primary School cater for Kindergarten to Year 4.
The Narrogin District's 29 schools are extremely well supported by their parent bodies and the wider community. Parents, through their involvement in School Councils and Parent and Citizen Associations, participate in school committees, policy development and review, establishing school priorities and initiatives and engaging in fund raising activities. Parents are also valued for the role they play in assisting teachers in the classroom, at sporting events, camps and excursions. The involvement of parents in their children's education is encouraged by schools and is very much appreciated and valued by both the school staff and the student body.
All government schools in Western Australia are currently implementing the Curriculum Framework and to this extent all schools in the Narrogin District are working towards implementing the principles of Teaching, Learning and Assessment that we believe, when fully implemented in all classrooms, will strongly enhance the social and academic outcomes of our students.
In essence, the teachers who are fully implementing the principles of Teaching, Learning and Assessment are providing opportunities for their students to set and achieve goals, self reflect, work both collaboratively and also individually, and to develop a respect and understanding for students from other cultures and students from a diverse range of
backgrounds. In particular our students are given opportunities to understand the history and culture of our indigenous Aboriginal people. Teachers are providing opportunities for students to link their learning to technology, to problem solve and face challenge, to integrate their learning, to negotiate aspects of the curriculum and to self assess and self-appraise. In assessing students, teachers give many opportunities to practice and achieve outcomes.
This style of education will help us to develop students who are responsible, self confident, compassionate and who have respect for others. They will be able to work collaboratively in teams and they will also be able to work independently when required. They will be multi-skilled, their skills will be transferable and they will be life long learners who will understand how to continue their learning well after they have left school.
The Curriculum Framework is being implemented in the Narrogin District and we are confident that it will continue to have positive outcomes for our students, their families and the wider community.
