EXECUTIVE EMAIL WEEK 3 TERM 4 2005

PURCHASE OF ADDITIONAL SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST FTE BY SCHOOLS - 2006

School Psychologist time that is additional to the allocation of the School Psychology service from District Office is currently purchased by some schools in the Canning Education District.

Schools wishing to purchase additional School Psychologist time for 2006 are invited to make application on the attached form.

Schools are advised that the purchase of additional School Psychologist time is made by the transfer of funds to Canning District Education Office for the purchase of the school psychology service and is not a separate contract with an individual School Psychologist.

In order to facilitate forward planning, an indication of the amount of FTE required would be appreciated by Close of Business on Thursday 3 November 2005.

Formal applications for the purchase of additional time are required by Close of Business on Friday 2 December 2005.

Please contact Shelley Peterson on 9311 0607 for further information.

2006 EDUCATION SUPPORT PLACEMENTS UPDATE.

Year 8, 2006

On Friday 21 October, an email was sent to Principals of Education Support facilities listing students who meet Schools Plus criteria and have requested an Education Support placement at schools next year.  On Monday 24 October referring school Principals received an email outlining the placement being offered for 2006.

The emails pertained to information current as at Wednesday 19 October.

While the Committee is still receiving applications requesting Education Support placements in 2006, the decision was made to notify schools due to the lateness of the year and some secondary schools being about to start transition programs.  Similar emails will continue to be sent to relevant schools.

If you have submitted an application on behalf of your student(s) requesting an Education Support placement for Year 8, 2006 but did not receive an email, this could be for several reasons;

- the application has not been received

-the Committee deferred a decision as they are awaiting additional information

- the application was not received prior to the meeting on October 19.

The Committee is still receiving applications requesting Education Support placements in 2006.  If you have submitted an application on behalf of one of your students and you have not received an email, it may be that the application is before the Education Support Eligibility Committee or it has not been received.  Please feel free to contact either Margaret Stewart on 9311 0532 or Elizabeth Moran on 9311 0536 to confirm that the application has been received.

Year 1, 2006

Applications for these students are yet to go before the Committee, but will do so in the next week or so and schools will be notified by email. Offers of Placement letters will follow.

PARENTSUPPORT SERVICE

Please find attached to this email a summary of the 'Responsible Parenting Initiative' and the service which has been established in line with this initiative - ParentSupport Service.  Shelley Peterson gave a short summary of this service at the last Principal's briefing and there have been some requests for further information.  Please call Shelley on 9311 0512  if you would like to further discuss, or if you have a family that you believe could benefit from this intense intervention - particularly relating to chronic non-attendance concerns.

HEALTH AND WELL BEING - PINK RIBBON DAY

Across the  District a number of people were involved in raising much needed funds for Pink Ribbon Day in support of Breast Cancer Research.

Cassandra Best, School Psychologist, took part in the  John Hughes Big Walk from Perth to Port as did a number of staff and community members from Kalamunda PS Ed Spt Centre.  The oldest member in their team is 82 years young! A photo of the  team is attached.

District Office staff hosted a Pink Ribbon Day with staff wearing pink clothing and a morning tea complete with pink food was well attended.

All monies raised goes to The Cancer Council of WA.

KENSINGTON SECONDARY SCHOOL WINS LITERACY GRANT

Kensington Secondary School has recently won a $3500 Commonwealth Bank Financial Literacy Award. 280 schools across Australia applied and 100 grants were awarded including 12 in WA. The school's submission 'Money Matters - You Can Bank On It' will be used to purchase new teaching and assessment materials. A special thank you to Helen Brown for the  title and for helping to write the  submission. Well done!

KENSINGTON PS PERFORM AT CONFERENCE

Kensington PS students under the  guidance of  teacher Carl Sanderson gave a wonderful performance at the Statewide Specialist Services Conference recently.  The conference, held at the Duxton Hotel, was attended by over 200 state, national and international teachers and educationalists. The students were brilliant performers and 'wowed' the crowd with their skills, talents and amazing circus acts.  Well done to all involved.

PRINCIPALS END OF YEAR FUNCTION

As mentioned in last week's Exec Email the  Principals' End of Year function is on the afternoon of Monday 28 November at Tech Park in Bentley.
