INVESTING IN OUR SCHOOLS

Stephen Harvey, Director, Facilities and Services, has been nominated as the State Government's representative on the assessment panel for the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) program, "Investing in Our Schools".

DEST will be managing the process of allocating a total of $700 million to State government schools across Australia, on a submission basis, over the period 2005-2008.  The limit for funding of any one school is $150,000.

Schools will soon be receiving a letter from the Director General, explaining how the Department will be involved and providing guidance and contact names to help school principals work with their parents and citizens associations to finalise submissions.  The Australian Council of State School Organisations has been contracted by DEST to run training sessions in the States and Territories, for parents and citizens groups, and two will be run in Perth in early May.

Full details, guidelines, application forms etc can be found on the DEST web site: www.dest.gov.au.  If you have any questions or comments on the program, please call  Marion Seboa, Skill Centre Project Officer, Asset Planning on 9264 4434.
