2005 ABORIGINAL EDUCATION AWARDS OF ACHIEVEMENT
All schools should by now have received information from Bob Somerville, Director Aboriginal Education Training and Services, regarding the 2005 Awards. There are a number of categories for the Awards and you are encouraged to consider individuals, schools and organisations for nomination. Winners will be announced as part of the NAIDOC Week celebrations and will be presented at a formal dinner on July 5. Please see the two attachments for further details.
PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION RESPONSES
Thank you to schools for your prompt replies in relation to the Parliamentary Question on Notice asked of the Minister of Education and Training. We are aware that the timeline was tight and acknowledge the speed with which schools provided us with the relevant information.
WELCOME BACK LEILA AND THANK YOU GARRY
Leila has resumed her role as District Director having returned from her ongoing work in Fiji and Garry has returned to South Perth Primary School. We thank Garry for his continued work with schools and the District Office in Leila's absence.
PURPLE BRA DAY - BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
Keith Newton, John Hesketh and Mark Williams wore Purple Bras (on the outside!) on Monday 9 May as part of District Office fundraising for Purple Bra Day in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA. The DO raised the grand total of $467 and you'll be pleased to hear the discomfort level (for everyone) increased the longer the day went on. Please see the attached photos for proof of Keith's, John's and Mark's commitment to the cause!
FREE FURNITURE TO A GOOD HOME!
District Office has available, free to schools, the following surplus equipment:
30 Office Chairs
2 Large grey laminate desks
10 Trapezoid shaped tables
10 Small pin up boards
2 Electronic whiteboards (not currently working)
1 Large whiteboard on a stand
1 Screen
5 Whiteboard easels
If you would like to access this furniture can you please email your WISH LIST to Kerry Wright at kerry.wright2@det.wa.edu.au by COB on Tuesday 17 May. Principals will be notified on Wednesday 18 May of the furniture that has been allocated to their school and will be required to pick up the furniture between 10 am and 4pm on Friday 20 May. Detailed procedures for picking up the furniture will be given to the successful schools on Wednesday 18 May.
