CANNING FOCUS IN SCHOOL MATTERS
Once again Canning schools and individuals feature strongly in the latest edition of School Matters
On the cover page mention is made once again of Carl Sanderson from Kensington PS and his NASA achievements.
On page 2 there is a feature on Bill Johnstone of Thornlie PS and the awarding of a $14900 scholarship to enable him to look at best practice in the development of a harmonious and connected school and community.
On page 4 Sharmaine Miles, AIEO Forrestfield SHS, is seen celebrating her award of being named the Outstanding Aboriginal Educator in the recent Aboriginal Education Awards.
On page 5 teachers Laura Jones of Carson St School and Lucie Panero of Gosnells PS have been short listed for the 2005 Edith Cowan and WA College of Teaching Early Career Awards.
On page 27 Roleystone PS's upcoming Centenary is featured.
In sporting news on the back page Como SC hockey programs are featured with six students from the College being selected to represent WA in the Under 16 National Championships.
PATHS IMPLEMENTATION
As outlined at the Behaviour Management & Discipline (BM&D) forum, schools will need to utilise BM&D funding to pay for their teacher relief. Schools without BM&D funding will continue to receive 1-day teacher relief for each class teacher attending a two-day course. Catering will be paid for by the District.
A PATHS coordinator will visit each PATHS school at least once per term for a full-day of implementation support. Teacher Relief will be provided for the Term 3 School-Based Coordinator's Network.
On behalf of John Hesketh, Manager Student Services.
SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAYS - ONLINE SURVEY
A sincere thank you to Principals for completing the online survey sent out by Ross Murray. The collated information has been sent into Central Office where it will be utilised to shape future decision making on the School Development policy.
LOCAL SELECTION OF TEACHING STAFF
All schools involved in the Local Selection of Teaching Staff program should have by now received a copy of the Local Recruitment Selection and Appointment of Teaching Staff Policy, Procedures and Guidelines 2005. The comprehensive document outlines school's responsibilities in relation to local recruitment of teaching staff and applies to schools who are new to local selection as well as schools who are already involved in the Local Selection of Teaching Staff program. Please contact your respective Manager of Operations if you have not received a copy of the guidelines.
