Browsers

Your browser must be running at least Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 7.1. For optimal performance Internet Explorer 6.x, Netscape 7.1 x and Opera 6.x are all recommended. If you are not running one of these you may see marked reduction in functionality, for example occasional “Java script errors”. Your school's IT support will be able to upgrade you or alternatively you can upgrade your browser free of charge from microsoft or netscape.

Please note that MacquarieNet does not support Netscape 6.0.

Explore Australia

The Explore Australia resource within MacquarieNet requires a web browser with a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) plug-in. Many computers' browsers come equipped with the latest version of the JVM but others may require an upgrade.

Mac OS 8 and 9: Use Internet Explorer 5 and Macintosh Runtime for Java (MRJ) 2.2.5.

Mac OS X: Use Internet Explorer 5. Mac OS X does not require the MRJ update.

Windows: Use the Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Screen resolution

Your screen resolution should be set to a minimum of 800 x 600 pixels. A lower resolution may affect the functionality of the site. To change the screen resolution go to your window display area, which is usually found under “settings” or “control panels”.

Local Internet cache

If you have not recently cleared your local Internet cache, you may experience general difficulties with the quality of your online access. If you experience difficulties, follow the instructions below to clear your local cache.

  • Internet Explorer: Go to “Tools” in your browser toolbar and then “Internet Options”. You will then see the option to clear temporary files and clear history. On Mac OS X, go to “Explorer” then “Preferences” then “Advanced”.
  • Netscape Navigator: Go to “Edit” in your browser toolbar then choose “Preferences”. From the menu that is displayed choose the “Advanced” category on the left hand side. Click on the ‘+’ or the triangle symbol and chose the sub-heading “Cache” and you can then clear both your “Memory Cache” and “Disk Cache”. On Mac OS X, go to “Netscape” then “Preferences” then “Advanced” then “Cache”.

Cookies

To clear any incorrectly saved cookies, go to your “C Drive”, and open the “Windows” folder. Click on either your “Cookies” or “Temporary Internet Files” folder. Search for and delete any MacquarieNet cookies and URLs. Mac users can delete cookies in Internet Explorer through “Explorer” then “Preferences” then “Cookies” or in Netscape Navigator by going to “Netscape” then “Preferences” then “Primary Security” then “Cookies” then “Manage Stored Cookies”.
