Professional Learning

Professional learning refers to the learning opportunities or experiences, both formal and informal, taken by staff in order to develop, enhance or refine their skills, capabilities, knowledge, understandings and motivation.

Professional learning is generally considered most effective when it:

• builds on the often rich experience base that each teacher brings;
• is directed by the teacher and supported as necessary;
• is relevant to the immediate needs of the teacher's workplace;
• involves people working together to support one another in their learning.
