The Online Professional Learning System (OPL) is the Department of Education and Training’s platform for delivering and managing online professional learning opportunities for staff.
From 2008, OPL will be available to internal DET professional learning Professional Learning (PL) providers to create, notify, deliver, monitor and report on interactive learning programs for individuals or groups of staff.
OPL will be progressively made available to all Department of Education and Training staff. Everyone will receive a secure, password-protected login to the system that will be automatically created when they are employed. Anyone wishing to provide Department of Education and Training-sanctioned, online professional learning for staff can use the system to notify users, to provide access to the learning materials, to track user’s progress and to monitor completion of courses.
Teachers will be able to access a range of online professional learning opportunities offered by the Department. These courses can be conducted from any internet-connected computer, at any time. Courses can be stopped and started at will and the system will track the user’s progress. OPL will also record results from any included tests or quizzes and report directly to the course owner.

OPL will be available through the Department of Education and Training online portal (http://portal.det.wa.edu.au/). DET staff will need to use their portal login details which consist of a staff ID number and a password (same as the HRMIS password). The Portal user guide contains detailed instructions on logging in.
To change login details, staff should contact the Customer Service Centre or, for school based staff, the Registrar or Principal. Once logged into the portal, an OPL tab will be displayed as seen below.

When the OPL tab is actioned, staff can view available courses, access enrolled courses and view any online communications relevant to their courses.
