Learning with ICT (LWICT)

The Learning with ICT (LWICT) project is a state government initiative to improve learning opportunities for public school students through the use of information and communications technology (ICT). The project continues to support Curriculum ICT Coordinators who, in turn, support school staff to use ICT effectively in classroom practice.

The project aims to:

  • enhance student engagement in the learning process and raise student competence in ICT
  • enhance student outcomes and learning opportunities
  • raise teacher competencies in the use of ICT for use in schools' teaching and learning programs
  • provide cost effective and reliable ICT for use in schools' teaching and learning programs
  • provide information on the issues to be addressed at system level in relation to the implementation of ICT
  • enhance the capacity of school leaders to lead change associated with effective application of ICT into the curriculum
  • harness existing school experience in the use of ICT in teaching and learning and
  • establish ICT standards for project schools and provide these standards for the wider Departmental deployment of ICT to all WA schools.

In 2008, the Learning with ICT, teacher support model, amalgamated with the Schools Online Curriculum Services (SOCS) Project. LWICT schools develop the curriculum and technical readiness to engage in the Online Teaching and Learning System (OTLS), which provides the means to:

  • create lesson plans online
  • work with other teachers, curriculum experts and parents
  • access classroom teaching resources including audio and video clips
  • assign learning activities to groups of students
  • monitor the performance of students and provide guidance or feedback where needed
  • help students to connect with other students in different locations to carry out tasks and assignments online.

Throughout 2008, Curriculum ICT Coordinators continue to support school staff to use information and communications technology effectively in classroom practice. In 2009, SLICT schools will need to determine their technical and curriculum readiness to engage in the OTLS.
