Focusing on Outcomes : Curriculum, Assessment & Reporting

Foreword
Why Focus on Outcomes?
Use of the Curriculum Framework and Outcomes and Standards Framework to guide and inform curriculum provision, assessment and reporting ensures that the individual nature of students' learning is central to all decisions about learning.
Curriculum Provision
With the outcomes of schooling defined, it is the task of teachers to plan curriculum provision and the delivery of curriculum content so that all students maximise their chances of achieving the expected outcomes.

Assessment
Student assessment should focus on what students can do themselves rather than how they are performing compared with their peers. This requires monitoring of each student's progress, assessing his or her performance in relation to the Student Outcome Statements, and making 'on-balance' judgements to determine achievement of a level.

Reporting
Each school faces different challenges in creating productive communication strategies for reporting on student progress and development. This challenge can be met through all stakeholders developing a shared understanding of learning outcomes.
