Collection Development

A Collection Development Policy, written in collaboration with the whole school staff, provides a set of guiding principles to ensure that the school library develops and maintains a ‘balanced, relevant and dynamic collection’ that satisfies the needs of its users. It reflects the school philosophy and the School Development Plan.

A Collection Development Policy encompasses the following sections:
  • introduction: scope and role of the collection, source of funds;
  • selection policy;
  • weeding policy;
  • challenged material policy, and
  • donated material policy.
