Oceans of Stories

The State Library of Queensland has a useful section to support Children's Book Week. It contains a list of the CBCA Shortlist and Notable Books, display ideas, weblinks and suggested activities and information to support 13 shortlisted titles.

The selected titles include only one from the Older Readers list so the site is of most use to teachers of Early to Middle Childhood students. Author and illustrator information is provided for selected titles and activities include discussion topics, songs, craft ideas, research topics, dramatic play, visual literacy and lists of associated books.

Rainbow Fish Global Project

Christine Trimnell of Narre Warren North Primary School, Victoria hosted a Global Project based on the Rainbow Fish, which would be a worthwhile activity to support the Oceans of Stories Children's Book Week 2003 theme.

The project aimed at students in Early to Middle Childhood requires students, either individually or in groups, to create their version of the Rainbow Fish in words and pictures, demonstrating a listed social skill. These skills include being friendly, being considerate, respecting others differences, sharing, showing good manners and being honest; and concur with the Values Outcomes of the WA Curriculum Framework.
