Ann James

Ann James, winner of the 2002 Dromkeen Medal is well-known for her innovative, lively and humorous illustrations found in more than 40 picture books and novels. Ann is also an author and talented graphic designer as well as a director of Books Illustrated, a centre devoted to the promotion of children's literature, in Melbourne, which she established in partnership with Ann Haddon.

Most popular with pre-and-early teenage readers are the Penny Pollard series written by Robin Klein, designed and illustrated by Ann in a scrapbook format. Published in 1981 Ann's first picture book was A Pet for Mrs Arbuckle written by Gwenda Smyth. As well as the many memorable picture books for younger readers, the Hannah stories with text by Libby Gleeson, illustrated in pen-and-wash are perennial favourites.
