| Ann James,
winner of the 2002 Dromkeen Medal is well-known
for her innovative, lively and humorous illustrations
found in more than 40 picture books and novels.
Ann is also an author and talented graphic designer
as well as a director of Books Illustrated,
a centre devoted to the promotion of children's
literature, in Melbourne, which she established
in partnership with Ann Haddon.
Most popular with pre-and-early teenage readers
are the Penny Pollard series written by
Robin Klein, designed and illustrated by Ann in
a scrapbook format. Published in 1981 Ann's first
picture book was A Pet for Mrs Arbuckle written
by Gwenda Smyth. As well as the many memorable
picture books for younger readers, the Hannah
stories with text by Libby Gleeson, illustrated
in pen-and-wash are perennial favourites.

Barry Jonsberg
was born in England, moved to Australia in 1999
and currently lives in Darwin where he is an English
teacher. The Whole Business with Kiffo &
the Pitbull is his first published novel. It
was included in Magpies magazine's top 10
Books for Older Readers in 2004 and has been shortlisted
for the CBCA Book of the Year: Older Readers, 2005.

Norman Jorgensen was born in
Broome, Western Australia. He loved reading as a
child and for many years worked as a bookseller.
The inspiration for his books came from old movies
