ANZAC Day - Information for Schools

Anzac soldier

Commemoration of ANZAC Day provides students with an opportunity to learn about Gallipoli and of Australia’s involvement in conflict in the years since then.

It builds an appreciation of the contributions of Australian men and women to maintaining the principles of freedom and democracy.

Teachers may also use the opportunity such a celebration presents for critical evaluation of Australia’s role in global conflict and the quest for world peace.

FOCUS 2008: Women in War
The Department of Veterans' Affairs is developing a resource kit for schools which will enable students to gain a wider understanding of the roles of Australian women during wartime from both both civilian and military perspectives.

An introduction to this topic can be found at the Women at War: The changing role of women in times of conflict, part of the Department of Veterans' Affairs website section Working the Web which investigates Australia's Wartime History.
