An Olympiad is an Ancient Greek measure of time, being the number of years between Olympic Games Celebrations.
The Summer and
Winter Olympics are held every 4 years in different
parts of the world, but alternating so that every two years either Summer or Winter Games is held. |

for students to learn about different sports and the rules,
strategies and etiquette associated with playing those
games.
As well as the physical skills, students can examine the
importance of interpersonal skills, cooperation and collaboration
in team performance.

of participating in physical activity encourage students
to value a healthy active lifestyle. |

Each Olympic Games brings greater
advances in Science and Technology to give athletes and
countries a competitive edge. From the technology of running
shoes and new clothing materials, better designed equipment
and the impact of sports science in enhancing performance,
there are myriad possibilities for students to investigate.
The preparations required of the host city to mount a
successful Olympic Games exemplify how the environment
can be modified to meet human needs. |

Games History
The modern Summer Olympics Games date from 1896 in Athens whilst the Winter Olympics date from 1924 in Chamonix, France. The first ever Youth Olympic Games will be held in Singapore in 2010.

Use at the Olympics
This WebQuest asks students to examine the Olympic
motto "swifter, higher, stronger" and questions
what would happen if performance enhancing drugs were
used at the Olympics and how drug use affects competition
and the notion of fairness.
