Assessment & Reporting

Assessment and reporting is an ongoing process that is vitally important to:

  • Provide students with feedback about their learning.
  • Inform teacher assessment of the students' progress.
  • Shape planning for future units of work.

Current issues in assessment and reporting reflect a worldwide trend in education to examine how schools assess students' progress and report on their learning. Issues include:

  • The recognition of prior learning.
  • The integration of key competencies into teaching and learning.
  • Using student outcome statements.
  • The place of anecdotal records.
  • Using portfolios, student profiles and student-led conferences to report to parents.
