Assessment and reporting is an ongoing process that is vitally important to:
- Provide students with feedback about their learning.
- Inform teacher assessment of the students' progress.
- Shape planning for future units of work.
Current issues in assessment and reporting reflect a worldwide trend in education to examine how schools assess students' progress and report on their learning. Issues include:
- The recognition of prior learning.
- The integration of key competencies into teaching and learning.
- Using student outcome statements.
- The place of anecdotal records.
- Using portfolios, student profiles and student-led conferences to report to parents.
