The Department of Education and Training (DET) operates seven camp schools. These are at Bridgetown, Broome, Dampier, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Pemberton and Point Peron.

We believe a communal living environments away from the student's home and school provides new experiences through which student's best develop:

  • Self-Management Skills
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Self Esteem

Our vision is to be the leading provider of high quality experiential educational learning programs that equip students to deal effectively with opportunities and challenges they encounter in a changing world. The camp school experience aims to increase students understandings of a range of concepts, processes and issues that form part of the normal school curriculum through direct experience and observation outside the classroom.

Camp school programs are complementary to the formal classroom programs and provide teachers with opportunities to extend student learning in all Learning Areas in relevant, practical and supportive environments. The camp schools delivers quality experiential learning programs designed to support schools achieve Curriculum Framework outcomes.

Programs include

  • Values education. Values based activities underpins the entire camping process as well as all camp programs. The camp schools is committed and well placed to support students achieve the values of the Curriculum Framework.
    • Pursuit of knowledge and commitment to achievement of potential.
      • Setting high personal standards.
    • Self acceptance and respect of self.
      • Students feeling good about themselves, being confident in their ability to be good at something.
    • Respect and concern for others and their rights.
      • Getting along with others and being connected, having empathy for others.
    • Social and civic responsibility
      • Students feel like they have a place, that they can contribute and they feel part of the community.
    • Environmental responsibility
      • Living in the environment with minimal impact whilst exerting care and understanding the need for environmental sustainability.
  • Practical interactions in natural and social environments.
  • Inclusive activities that support/suit all ranges of experiential learning and that balance physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual/ethical aspects of personal development.
  • Development of thinking, reflective practices.
  • Camp School Managers are qualified teachers accredited in First Aid and aquatic qualifications. They can assist in the formulation of programs for each user group and customise instructions to suit the various themes of each camp.
