Since its introduction in 1995 the School Profile System has undergone a variety of changes aimed at improving both the accessibility of the system and the provision of information about individual government schools. In December 2006, the system was renamed Schools Online.
Recent changes to the system have been mostly directed at improving the presentation of information although the staffing information has been expanded and is now updated more frequently. The latest upgrade provides extra information on the local school intake area, provision for the School Report and a more versatile reporting facility.
The most recent upgrade of the system which occurred in the first term of 2007 resulted in improved reporting of the school's priorities and programs. While providing better consistency in reporting between schools and more detail, the changes will also allow for an improved search function in locating schools providing certain programs or projects.
