The Data Club supports school leaders in making performance judgements based on their school's Western Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (WALNA) data. The software and installer is available for downloading from Schools Online and provides additional analyses of the school's WALNA results. This is supported via a state-wide professional development program and a support line for school leaders.
A Note About the Introduction of NAPLAN
The introduction of the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) data for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in 2008 will result in some changes, particularly as the WAMSE scale will be replaced by a new NAPLAN scale. The national benchmarks will be replaced with national minimum standards and the WAGSAT will be replaced by performance in relation to 10 proficiency bands of achievement.
Schools will continue to be supported by online data sources. Data Club will be integrated into Schools Online and will no longer be a separate downloadable program. One significant change will be that longitudinal data linking NAPLAN to WALNA and MSE9 will only be possible for reading and numeracy.
The Data Club 2008 software was released to each school just prior to the commencement of the 2008 school year. The Data Club analyses based on the 2003 - 2007 data are presented via updated Data Club graphical software.
We are often asked why the Data Club analyses are not provided in November along with the results software and hard copy reports. The release of these results inevitably exposes any issues with the school and individual data and sometimes leads to requests for remarking, a check of the scanning or other technical resolution. Whilst these instances are now minimal the potential impact on the Data Club analyses at the school level are such that we must wait for the provision of 'clean files' before commencing the detailed analysis work. In addition, we receive and test the updated version of the Data Club graphical software which is used under a licence agreement with Edith Cowan University. From the last day of Term 4 until close to the end of the holiday period a small team undertakes all of the required activities to have the software ready for the start of the school year.
