Our Story is an Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training program for the education sector and is designed for delivery to teachers and support staff who have direct contact with Aboriginal children, youth, parents, families and communities. The training program is also applicable to workers in management, policy and other administrative roles. It has been developed as a framework for Aboriginal people in the education sector to plan, present and evaluate cultural awareness training programs.
The program is designed to improve and enhance participants’ knowledge
about Aboriginal people of Western Australia and develop a respect for cultures.
The training program should also assist staff in the education sector in developing
more inclusive and culturally sensitive communication and relationships with
Aboriginal people.
All DET staff in schools are expected to undertake the Our Story training
program. The program is delivered by trained staff from District Offices.
