The Aboriginal Literacy Strategy is a highly structured accelerated literacy learning program compulsory for all 43 Remote Community Schools in Western Australia. The program has been designed to reduce the English literacy gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students. Students in the program undertake a daily literacy session including the explicit teaching of phonics.
Specialist teaching staff provide onsite support to schools involved in the program. All principals, teachers and AIEOs participating in the program receive ongoing training and support to implement the program.
Print, audio and on-line support materials are available from the Curriculum Directorate.
