A Mindmap is the starting point of a learning programme. It is a planning tool used to brainstorm ideas and thoughts associated with a topic or Learning Area. You start with the main idea in the middle of the screen or page and then record your ideas associated with the topic around the main idea. As your ideas grow subtopics will radiate from each of the developing ideas until the page is filled.
A Mindmap will allow you the opportunity to explore an idea freely by brainstorming then using the results for planning taking into account the students' needs and interests. It is a valuable strategy to use with students when planning for student initiated learning as the students are actively involved in making decisions about their learning.
