When traveling to local communities, it is important to check with a person who has local knowledge about whether you are allowed to go. There may be times when ceremonies or events are occurring which will mean that visitors to the community would not be welcome.

In most major towns there is a Visitors Centre which has a wealth of information about local and regional places of significance that is invaluable for teachers. These information centers provide a free service and can direct you to the most appropriate place. These centres provide information that is cultural, contemporary and commercial important. They can direct you to local Aboriginal communities as well as industry support groups such as BHP, Woodside, and Rio Tinto ( Dampier Salt, Pilbara Iron) who can provide further information. When traveling in the Pilbara it is highly recommended that you first check road conditions with MRD or the Visitors Centers and in some places, for permits. |
