Role of Manager Aboriginal Education

Role of Aboriginal Liaison Officers
- Support District and Schools with the development and implementation of strategies and teaching and learning program.
- Establish and maintain partnerships between the District Office, schools, parents/caregivers, interagency and the Aboriginal community.
- Support professional development in Aboriginal Education.
- Implement the District Office Strategic Plan for Aboriginal Education.
- Liaise with Aboriginal people on behalf of the Department.
- Identify professional development needs of AIEOs.
- Support AIEOs in the establishment of their physical environment.
- Act as mentor to AIEOs.
- Advise teachers about appropriate resources and materials for Aboriginal students and studies/perspectives.
- Promote the District's professional development available to schools.
- Provide advice to Manager of Aboriginal Education.

Manager Participation: Marcus Turner
The Retention and Transition Team consists of four key positions based at the Pilbara District Education Office:
- Manager Participation: responsible for the development, implementation and operational management of a range of District strategies and plans for 15 to 17 year old students at risk of disengaging from education, training and suitable employment. The Manager Participation has the delegated authority of the Minister in determining and approving Notices of arrangement.
- Participation Coordinator: provides individualized case management and support services, including case brokerage (referral) services to 15 to 17 year old students at risk of disengaging prematurely from school. One Participation Coordinator is currently based in Port Hedland and it is planned for 5 more to be appointed across the Pilbara District over the next two years.
