The Spelling of Noongar

Please note that there are at least three other known ways of spelling Noongar - Nyoongar, Nyoongah, and Nyungar. This is due to our language being communicated orally and there being no written record from early times.

Noongar Seasons

There are 6 Generic Seasons for Noongar people:

Birak December / January hot and dry with easterly winds during the day and south west sea breezes in the late afternoon
Boonaroo February / March hot easterly and north winds
Djiran April / May becoming cooler with winds from the southwest
Mookaroo June / July cold and wet with westerly gales
Djilba August / September becoming warmer
Kambarang October / November rain decreasing
