Prior to visiting any significant Aboriginal sites, it is in your
best interest to contact the local Aboriginal Corporation to let
them know and to also have an Aboriginal guide take you on the tour
of these sites.

Murchison River. This resource is useful in the learning of the
Wadjarri language giving correct spelling and pronunciation, as

All words are divided into sections such as body parts, birds,
animals etc, plus there are some English words translated into

process and heritage. Yamatji Marlpa Barna Baba Maaja Aboriginal
Corporation would be useful for teachers to engage with the
resident anthropologist when they want to discuss issues such as

set up a working farm on 300 acres for Youth on Community

| The Gallery has been operating since 2000 and is 100% Aboriginal owned and operated. Authentic Aboriginal artwork by
local Aboriginal artists from around the Mid west region is on
display and sold at the Gallery. Teachers can use the Gallery to
find names of locally based Aboriginal artists or to show
students works produced by local artists. |

and it has a vast supply of resources suitable to assist teachers

Holland Street, commenced on 1st July 2005. The Language
Programme aims to retrieve, preserve, maintain and promote the

| The Centre aims to retrieve, preserve, maintain and
promote the Indigenous Languages of the Yamaji region. It does
this in a number of ways, including working with schools to teach
language to young children, promoting Aboriginal culture and
languages via their Yamaji News newspaper (a publication of the
Centre), and much more. |

Blue Ochre Art Gallery |

| Blue Ochre Gallery is located some 10kms south of
Northampton off the Northwest Coastal Highway. The Gallery is
owned and operated by Noongar artist Margaret Danischewski and it
has art work from herself and her daughter Naomi. |

Christian Brothers Agricultural School |

| In 1928, a group of Beagle Bay Missionaries, together
with Beagle Bay Aborigines, established the Tardun farm. These
early beginnings have now developed into a boarding school for
junior high school boys. Teachers in the Mid West District would
find this place significant if they were teaching about the
establishment of mission schools in the Mid West. |

| The office is situated in Carnarvon and the
Aboriginal Economic Development Officer is available to assist
teachers in the Gascoyne Region with Aboriginal art, crafts and
musicians. The officer can also be contacted by teachers when
they want to resource local Aboriginal elders. |

Karalundi Aboriginal Education Centre |

| Karalundi is a boarding school that provides a
Christian education for Aboriginal students in the Mid West,
Kimberley, Pilbara and Goldfields Districts. The school began
in 1953 and therefore has a long history with Aboriginal families
in the district. Teachers in close proximity to Karalundi would
find it mutually beneficial to network with the staff at the
school, gaining support and encouragement in their teaching
experience. |

| This 3km walk around Meekatharra Creek offers
fascinating facts about Meekatharra’s history, Indigenous culture
and natural wonders. Alternatively, learn about the culture and
history of the Ngoonooru Wadjari and Yugunga-Nya people on the lookout trail. |

| Two significant Aboriginal sites; Walga Rock
features the display of Aboriginal rock paintings in WA,
including that of a rigged sailing ship, even though the rock is
over 300 km from the coast. Wilgie Mia is an ochre mine that has
been in use by Aborigines for at least 1,000 years. |
