Resources in the Kimberley District
The Kimberley district is divided into three Aboriginal Torres Strait
Islander Commission (ATSIC) boundaries:
- The Kullarri region (West Kimberley) includes the major
town of Broome and several large Aboriginal communities.
- The Malarabah region includes the larger towns of Derby
and Fitzroy Crossing, and outlying Aboriginal communities.
- The Wunan region, which includes Kununurra, Halls Creek
and Wyndham, and many growing Aboriginal communities, is by far
the largest region.
A useful place to start to find physical resources in your local area
is to ask the AIEOs, Aboriginal Advisory Groups or Community members
from your community or location. Another useful place to look is
your nearest Visitors Centre.
There are many communities that are not marked on any map - these
communities are under native title and therefore are private property
and can only be used with prior community permission.
