Mrs Christine Jackson: Manager of Aboriginal Education

The Manager of Aboriginal Education is involved in providing direction to strategic planning at a District as well as at a school level, to ensure that Indigenous targets are reflected in educational practice. The Manager oversees and manages, in consultation with the Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee, Indigenous Education Strategic Initiatives Program (IESIP) and Parent School Partnership Initiative (PSPI) funding as well as AIEO allocations and staffing.

Mr Jim Haynes: Coordinator Aboriginal Education

The Coordinator of Aboriginal Education works with teachers and principals to ensure classroom planning and pedagogy reflect the needs of Aboriginal students. He provides professional development to teachers, and supports Aboriginal teachers The coordinator works in partnership with career advisers to help develop meaningful career pathways for Aboriginal students.

Mr Garry Taylor: Aboriginal Liaison Officer

The role of the Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) is to provide support and advice to Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEO) and teachers to ensure classroom planning and pedagogy reflect the needs of all Aboriginal students. The Aboriginal Liaison Officer also focuses on providing extra support to schools to help improve parent participation and facilitates workshops for school staff on cultural awareness.

Mr Gary Calgaret: Indigenous Youth Support Worker

The Indigenous Youth Support Worker implements various strategies aimed at engaging and supporting families to improve the attendance and participation of Aboriginal youth in education. A major part of this role involves the monitoring of interagency support provided to families on a case-by-case basis.

Aboriginal Education Advisory Council

The Aboriginal Education Advisory Council (AEAC) provides an opportunity for Aboriginal people to be actively involved in educational decision-making. This committee deals specifically with Indigenous educational issues relating to families and students. The members represent specific family groups in and around the regional areas, ensuring that all families have an equal voice in advising on cultural issues.

Aboriginal Education Management Committee
