MSE9 ASSESSMENT PROGRAM

The Monitoring Standards in Education Year 9 assessment program (MSE9) is a curriculum-based assessment that is criterion-referenced and tests students' knowledge and skills in English, Mathematics and Science.  The MSE9 assessment is administered annually and provides schools with student and school level information.

Monitoring Standards in Education (MSE) is part of the Standards and Moderation Directorate in the Department of Education and Training, Western Australia.

A cornerstone of the Department of Education and Training's operations is to ensure quality education provision to all students, irrespective of their background or geographical location. As part of these operations, MSE conducts two other assessment programs: the Random Sample assessment program and the Western Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (WALNA) program.

The MSE9 program has the innovative and authentic assessment attributes of the Monitoring Standards in Education assessment materials. The results will be statistically equated to the existing MSE WAMSE scale, which allows the valid comparison of performance from different year levels and performance over time.
