The Rob Riley Memorial Prize honours the legacy of Rob Riley, an Aboriginal leader who made an outstanding contribution to the Western Australian and broader Australian communities through his work to advance social justice, particularly his advocacy of Aboriginal human rights issues and reconciliation with non-Aboriginal Australians. His untimely death was mourned throughout Australia.
Prizes of $5,000 are awarded in January each year to the leading public school Aboriginal Year 12 TEE student and the leading public school Aboriginal VET in Schools student. The prize is decided on the basis of academic results provided through the Curriculum Council.
The prize promotes excellence in Aboriginal education generally and provides incentive and acknowledgement for Aboriginal students achieving at a very high level.
