The Aboriginal Literacy Strategy is a highly structured literacy learning program. It is delivered across 52 school sites, including remote community schools and some regional schools in Western Australia. The program is designed to reduce the English literacy gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students. Students in the program undertake a daily literacy session including the explicit teaching of phonics.
English Language and Literacy Consultants (ELLC) provide training and support to schools involved in the program. All principals, teachers and AIEOs participating in the program receive ongoing training and support to implement the program.
Print, audio and on-line support materials are available from the Curriculum Directorate.
