The Primary Directorate provides flexible and practical support for schools and teachers to improve literacy, numeracy and science standards for all public school students, particularly those in the early and middle childhood phases of learning.

The literacy team provides advice and support to schools and district offices in relation to literacy learning and teaching.

The numeracy team provides advice and support to schools and district offices in relation to numeracy learning and teaching.

The primary science team provides advice and support to schools and district offices in relation to science learning and teaching. This includes in-school support and an outreach model where clusters of schools share good practice.

The professional support team provides advice and support to schools and district offices in relation to the analysis of student performance data. This informs decision making and whole-school planning to improve student learning outcomes.

The National Partnership for Literacy and Numeracy is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth and WA Governments to improve literacy and numeracy for all students, especially those identified as falling behind.
