Welcome to the Department of Education and Training, WA’s Primary Directorate website.

Vision
The Directorate’s vision is to lead high quality customised primary school support that ensures every primary school is a good school, every teacher is an effective teacher & every student is a successful student by:

  • building strong partnerships
  • supporting quality teaching & school leadership
  • strengthening early childhood education
  • enhancing middle years development
  • promoting world-class curriculum & assessment
  • improving educational outcomes for Indigenous & disadvantaged children
  • strengthening accountability & transparency.


Function
To achieve its vision, the Primary Directorate:

  • conducts and brokers professional development courses and workshops using a range of delivery modes
  • develops and publishes high quality learning, teaching and assessment resources in a range of media
  • allocates resources to support target setting and school improvement plans
  • contributes to the development of curriculum policy
  • leads the implementation of key Commonwealth and State government commitments and initiatives
  • provides advice to teachers, senior officers of the department and the Minister on curriculum issues and priorities.


The Primary Directorate’s website reflects the belief that quality support leads to quality teaching and to quality educational leadership in schools. Through this website we aim to develop authentic partnerships with its users, to enhance our services and to contribute to improved student learning and teacher professional knowledge and skill.
