Hyogo Prefecture Teacher Exchange Program

Hyogo Prefecture and Western Australia share a close sister state relationship. The Hyogo Prefecture Teacher Exchange  Program plays an intergral role in this relationship.  In January each year, a teacher from Western Australia travels to Japan to work as an English language support teacher.  In return, a teacher of English from Hyogo Prefecture works in Western Australian public schools teaching Japanese language and culture.

Teachers interested in teaching English in Hyogo, Japan should have WACOT registration and a minimum of five years experience teaching in Western Australian public schools.  While teachers of Japanese language in secondary schools are preferred, other applicants may also be considered.

The successful applicant from Western Australia receives a one-off relocation grant and continues to be paid his or her normal salary by the Department of Education while in Japan.

The teacher from Hyogo Prefecture works in Westeern Australian public schools for the duration of the Japanese school year, which is from April to February.

Western Australian public schools teaching Japanese language are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest for the placement of the Hyogo exchange teacher at their particular school.

For more details, please call (08) 9264 5522.

Language Ambassadors Program

Inspiration for the Language Ambassadors Program program was the Asia Education Foundation’s Young Champions; a talented team of young people who had achieved a great deal of success in careers and personal lives through being proficient in another language.

Young people, who are either studying the language at tertiary level or using the language in their careers and personal lives, are encouraged to become a part of the Language Ambassadors Program.

Public schools that are interested in hosting a Language Ambassador and schools that can identify potential candidates suitable for this role, should contact the Department of Education on (08) 9264 5522.

The brochure and video below provide personal stories from previous Language Ambassadors.   Teachers  may find these materials useful in promoting Languages education at the school level.
