Curriculum

The Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages is now available online. Language-specific curriculum writing will commence shortly, beginning with Chinese and Italian.  A framework for Aboriginal languages and Torres Strait Islander languages will also be included in the  first stage of development.  Visit the ACARA website for further information.

Kindergarten to Year10

The K-10 syllabus materials are advisory documents to support teachers as they continue with their implementation of the Curriculum Framework. The Scope and Sequence documents provide support in developing comprehensive teaching and learning programs from primary to Year 10. For Languages, the documents describe the recommended content and contexts that should be taught in each year of the middle childhood phase of development (4-7) and the early adolescent phase of development (8-10) in order for students to progress in their language learning. When using these advisory materials, teachers will continue to make professional judgments about when to introduce content, based on students’ previous learning and achievements.

Senior Secondary

The full range of Languages courses for Stages 1, 2 and 3, as well as support material, can be found by visiting the Curriculum Council.

Resources

A range of resources to support the teaching and learning of Languages is available via the Department of Education Portal and K-12 Resources
