Literacy and Numeracy Week

About National Literacy and Numeracy Week 2009

National Literacy and Numeracy Week (NLNW) is an Australian Government initiative, run in collaboration with state and territory governments. The State, Catholic and Independent school systems and sectors work together to plan and conduct activities for the week.

The week aims to:

  • Showcase the hard work school communities are undertaking to improve literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Raise community awareness of the importance of all Australian students developing effective literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Build on national initiatives to improve literacy and numeracy standards among young Australians.

National Literacy and Numeracy Week (NLNW) is being held on 31 August - 6 September. The theme for NLNW 2009 is Getting the Basics Right.

NOTE: For the past ten years, individual school awards were a feature of NLNW. From 2008, however, there will be no Literacy or Numeracy awards made.
