Studies of Asia - a Statement for Australian Schools

National statement for engaging young Australians with Asia in Australian schools

This framework for teaching and learning about the nations and cultures of Asia has been prepared by the Asia Education Foundation for Australian schools.

It provides a philosophical and practical reference point for the curriculum decision - making in systems and schools and for the related development of teaching materials and professional development activities for teachers.

The underlying goal of this document is that students should have Asia related curriculum experiences in all learning areas.

These learning experiences should aim to develop in students:

  • an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of cultures, societies and environments of Asia.
  • informed attitudes and behaviours about Asian peoples, events, issues and lifestyles and communicating these appropriately and effectively to others.
