"We can create classrooms that hum with purpose and meaning. In the new century we see a new kind of classroom emerging. The "wired" classroom differs dramatically from classrooms of the smokestack era. Given rich information and global communications, students spend their time quite differently. There is no "front" in the wired classroom. The teacher is rarely a "sage on the stage". There is much more facilitating, more supporting, more encouragement and fewer lectures.”
- Jamie McKenzie
Conference reading list
'Connected Learning: the power of ICT in the curriculum' is a specially designed conference for K-12 government school teachers featuring Jamie McKenzie and other presenters such as Tom March, Toni Downes and David Jonassen.
The conference is an initiative of the Curriculum and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Directorates, Department of Education and Training, Western Australia.
In designing this conference, it is hoped to give teachers inspiration and at a practical level the tools they need to access the power ICT brings to teaching and learning. It’s all about:
- Connecting with and challenging students to take their learning further.
- Connecting curriculum to real, rich and relevant learning opportunities.
- Connecting learners with their peers on a global scale for purposeful learning.
- Connecting learners with parents, teachers, community and experts.
Conference Themes
To support the main conference theme ‘Connected Learning: the power of ICT in the curriculum’, three additional themes are incorporated into the program as concurrent sessions. Practitioners from Western Australian schools alongside invited presenters will share best practice ideas with a focus on how technology enhances teaching and learning.
