School Innovation Grants 2012

The Director General has allocated $500 000 to support innovation in schools for 2012. This is the third round of School Innovation Grants which were first offered in 2010.

Applications close at 4.00pm on Friday 30 March 2012 and successful schools will be announced in May 2012.

The guidelines and application form contain information for schools to apply.

Grants will be between $10 000 and $50 000 each and are one-off payments with no provision for ongoing funding.

In keeping with Classroom First, the grants encourage and enable schools to adopt new approaches to teaching and learning for their students.

They give schools the opportunity to challenge accepted education approaches, and develop innovative solutions or options to deliver educational gains for students beyond those that current approaches deliver.

A key aspect of these grants is for other schools to learn about successful innovations and implement and/or adapt them in their own schools.

Innovation projects aim to deliver new and imaginative ways to engage students, staff, parents and communities in public education. Successful schools will share their challenges and successes with other schools through forums, conferences and meetings; and by hosting visits to their schools.

School Matters will include stories about the innovations as they progress.

In 2010, there were 14 projects in 31 schools. You can find out more about the successes and challenges of these programs and contact the people involved in leading these innovations.

In 2011, there were 12 projects across 28 schools. You can also find out about these diverse projects and what they achieved.
