Pay and conditions

What about working conditions?

Working conditions vary depending on your apprenticeship or traineeship you are undertaking.

What can I expect to get paid?

As a rough guide, minimum apprenticeship wages vary. You can expect to earn:
  • $260 to $342 a week for the first year
  • $342 to $466 in the second year
  • $466 to $547 in your third year
  • adult rates apply - usually at a second year level.

If you start a traineeship, you can expect about $250 a week as a full time trainee for a Year 12 school leaver for your first year.

You will be paid for the time you spend at work and in training. Check the details for your chosen apprenticeship for specific details with Wagenet as wages can vary. Your employer will be able to tell you if you're paid under a State or Federal agreement.

Incentives and allowances

Things like the cost of tools for some trades and wage top-ups may be available to you to help lessen the cost of your training.

You might also be able to get a living away from home allowance if you'™ve had to move away, or you might be able to claim travel and accommodation allowances.

What about other costs?

Any costs involved will depend on the apprenticeship or traineeship you undertake, which registered training organisation you attend and the tools you may need to buy.

Training in the workplace is the responsibility of your employer, however you may have to pay registered training organisation fees.
