Happy Kids Initiative – Social Emotional Wellbeing

The Happy Kids initiative is a social and emotional wellbeing program targeting upper primary students. In 2008 it was operating in 13 schools in Western Australia. There is a diverse range of health programs available for use in schools covering social and emotional well-being for students. This program was reviewed to ensure that resources support the most effective program and the Aboriginal Education and Training Directorate will be supporting existing Happy Kids schools to become KidsMatter schools in 2009.

KidsMatter is a national mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiative specifically developed for primary schools. It is currently being trialled in schools across Australia and will be implemented in some schools in Western Australia in 2009.

Schools wishing to know more about KidsMatter are encouraged to visit their website.
