Citizenship Minister Margaret Quirk announced the names of 14 Western Australian school students chosen to attend ANZAC commemorations in France, Belgium and Gallipoli.
Ms Quirk announced the names at a dinner-briefing function in Perth on December 1, 2005.
These photographs are from that event, which included parents of the successful students, and students who had been on the previous two ANZAC tours in 2004 and 2005.
The 14 students, selected from public and private high schools throughout the State, will depart in late April for a two-week tour, the third year of the State Government-sponsored tour.
The Minister said the teenagers had been picked after an extensive State-wide selection process which included questioning on the role the State had played in the ANZAC legend.
"To get through, finalists needed to give a five-minute talk on the topic: 'The role Western Australians played in the formation and development of the ANZAC legend since 1915'," she said.
"Students also had to demonstrate their understanding of the positive values exhibited during times of war and lessons the current generation could learn from war.
"The selection process was very difficult and these 14 students have done exceptionally well to be chosen."
Ms Quirk said the trip was part of the State Government's commitment to instilling in Western Australian students the importance of ANZAC Day.
"Learning the values of honour, mateship and community service, as well as leadership skills, are some of the many benefits students will take home from this trip," she said.
"These students play an important role in keeping the ANZAC legend alive through sharing their experiences with classmates at their schools and neighbouring schools."
The 14 students met in Perth last night for a tour briefing and dinner, which was also attended by students from the 2004 and 2005 ANZAC Student Tours.
Students have been drawn from Years 9-11 and reflect a cross-section of country and city schools.
As well as Gallipoli, the Department of Education and Training-organised tour takes in Waterloo, Villers-Bretonneux, Le Hamel, Pozières, Menin Gate and Ypres.
